Recommended Song And Movie of The Week

 Recommended Song Of The Week

Hate Me- Escape The Fate - The recommended song of the week goes out to one of my absolute favorite bands.I got to see these guys live a few years ago at Uproar festival, and they rocked. Even gave out free posters and autographed them. We have one on our wall. Anyway this song is from their latest album, with the same name, "Hate Me". I love this album(although I love all of their albums), but I feel it hasn't gotten the props it deserves. It's definitely worth checking out. Take a listen.

Recommended Movie Of The Week

Dark Skies(2013)-  The recommended movie this week is a sci-fi thriller known as "Dark Skies". When I first grabbed this movie for five or seven bucks at Walmart I thought it'd probably just be a time killer. But my girlfriend and I were both pleasantly surprised how awesome this movie is. It isn't your typical alien invasion movie. The movie centers around a normal suburban family, who is plagued by what appears to be a supernatural occurrence each night. As they delve deeper into what's happening to the family, the more strange things keep happening. I love how you don't see much of the aliens at all, it gives it a very "Twilight Zone" feel to it. Where it's mostly playing a mental game with the audience. I recommend this movie for pretty much anyone, sci-fi fans, horror fans, thriller fans, it pleases all!

Respecting The Next Generation

Before I get started with this one, I just want to put out there, this isn’t meant to bash anyone I know or call anyone out. It’s just my personal opinion. The other day I had my two younger cousins up to my place, one is 11 and one is 14. Not little kids, but let’s face it until you’re 18 at least, you are a child. These guys are awesome, and I like hanging out with them. Their mom busts her ass for them and I know she’s a great mom, so this has nothing to do with her. But I realized later when I dropped them off to our grandmas the next day, she said a few times she was shocked when I said they were really good. They didn’t fight or anything and we had a lot of fun. Well this got me thinking for the past few days, what the reason for this is. Honestly I believe it boils down to a certain level of respect between them and myself. Now I realize for different people kids can act differently, especially their parents or grandparents. However I just feel when they come up here, I don’t really treat them like kids, I just hang out with them, listen to them, have fun. They don’t fight much and they seem to be having a good time as far as I know. I rarely boss them around, but if I did ask something of them, they would do it.

Now this is coming from someone who doesn’t have kids, nor doesn’t want them. So you can take my ideals with a grain of a salt if you want. But I just feel sometimes I see these people who have kids, and who don’t respect them. What I mean by that is kids have thoughts, they have likes and dislikes, and they have personalities. They are people, just not full grown yet. To give them your time of day, your attention, means a lot to them. I realize my cousins I spoke of aren’t small children but I still believe it applies. My 11 year old cousin is hilarious, this kids witty comebacks and comments he makes, astonish me sometimes. I was never that smart at his age. To not give him some time to chill with is a mistake. We always have fun messing with each other. I actually inspired him to write his own blog, and it’s pretty good! ( colton222.wordpress.com). With my 14 year old cousin I completely understand being 14. I remember hating that time of my life at that age, and hating school. If she wants to hang out to get away from it all, I totally understand. Plus I got her into professional wrestling and that automatically makes it fun to hang out even more. She’s also very easy to scare, if you throw on a good horror movie, actually they both are a couple of scaredy cats, and if you know me, it’s kinda what I love to do (scare people, haunter, hello?).

Maybe for me personally sometimes it’s easier to connect to kids over adults because I like what they like still, I am essentially a big kid. I love cartoons, talking about random stuff that doesn’t matter, and not acting like an adult most of the time. In fact just a few weeks ago, my sister had a birthday party for her oldest kid that turned four. My whole family was in a conversation about some “adult” stuff, I don’t even remember now. But I found it much more interesting to play Legos with him. My girlfriend also has three little cousins who are one, five, and nine that we hang out with frequently. These kids are also hilarious; it’s worth hanging out with them just to have them make you laugh. The stuff they come up with cracks me up. The other day their mom shared on Facebook that the five year old was watching the new “Jungle Book” movie, the real one, and he asked “Why is the boy in his underwear? Should I be watching this?” I wasn’t even there for this one, but it still cracks me up just thinking of him saying this. They love playing video games with me; in fact one Saturday they were up I played video games with them literally all day, not my girlfriend’s cup of tea. But hey I thought it was fun. I guess maybe that’s what’s cool with hanging out with most kids, is that they put you on this pedestal. They think you are the coolest person, and if you’re me, you really aren’t that cool. When you have boring jobs, you aren’t rich, and honestly just aren’t that successful all around (at least not yet), but yet this little person is like I want to spend all day with you because you’re awesome. It’s a good feeling, at least to me. Maybe it resonates with me because a lot of times in my adult life I still feel a lot of people don’t listen to me. Or don’t really care about what I have to say, or what I’m into. I can’t blame people for not being into the same stuff as me, but if I can show interest in what a child is into and make them feel important, well I will. I also am not a normal 23 year old; to me a fun Saturday night is staying in with people I like, ordering a pizza, and playing video games all night. I’d rather hang out with my little cousins than at a bar filled with dumbasses.

I feel a big part of this is where ones self-esteem starts, and it’s either going to go up or down. From someone who doesn’t have high self-esteem, you should really take this into consideration. I remember when I was a kid an uncle of mine had good friends in a couple that lived out in Ohio, and we took a trip out there. Actually we did a few times. But this one time when I was like ten years old, we were all around the dinner table, food was being set out. So like a normal kid who was starving after a long day of the zoo or whatever we did, I started eating, I specifically remember it was a burger and I was like half way through it. Then suddenly to my left the father of the family in a loud yelling voice said “ARE YOU EATING!?” and it scared the crap out of me and I dropped the burger to my plate. The wife was calming him down, because in THEIR household they said prayer before eating. I was like TEN YEARS OLD, what the hell is wrong with this guy; seriously to this day I am angry about this. Who yells at a child in their home who isn’t from a home where they do that? It wasn’t like beforehand they said “Could you all please wait until we say our prayers”. We never have done that in my family, that’s great they do, but really to this day I still feel like because of this experience, it’s one of the reasons why I hate having family-like dinners at other people’s houses. Anyway the point to this story is there was no respect there. Yes I was a kid, but seriously shit like that is uncalled for. I want to invite this guy to my home now that I’m an adult and have my girlfriend whip up her amazing burgers, and set them right in front of him, and right when he’s about to eat yell “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? In this house the guest watches us eat first” (True story too).

Anyway I totally understand kids can be annoying, and they do need to be disciplined at times. They need to be taught right from wrong. But what’s wrong with giving them your attention every now and then, I’m not perfect I do it too. I know if my siblings are reading this they are probably thinking well you haven’t paid much attention to your nieces and nephew, and that’s probably true except to me there’s a difference between kids and babies. Their kids are now starting to get to the point where it isn’t awkward for me to hang out with them. Babies I just feel weird around though, they’re like these tiny squishy aliens. My youngest niece is one years old now, and I feel now we can start to get to know each other a little better because she’s walking around and sort of speaking. The other two now are talking a lot more and it’s definitely less awkward and more fun to hang out with them. Actually just a little bit ago, my brother texted me saying he was listening to Disney songs in the car with his daughter, and “Be Prepared” came on (Ya know Scar from the Lion King) and he said it’s my song to her (He’s my favorite Disney villain…yes I have a favorite OK) and she said “No uncle Nate’s not scary”. This means she clearly doesn’t know me well enough yet (just kidding, but for real haunter? Hello again?). But it was funny to hear because to kids that don’t know me, I probably am creepy, well and adults, but not to her! (I have resting hate-face alright….fine you can call it resting bitch face, but I’m sticking with hate-face).

I guess after this rambled mess I just spewed, all I am saying is why have kids if you really aren’t ready? No I don’t just mean financially, but mentally. If you can’t handle hanging out with them, listening to them, then you aren’t ready. The whole mentality of the old days, where kids shouldn’t have a say or voice, in which they should just should stand quietly or go away while the adults speak, is ridiculous. Sometimes the power trip I see adults get on with their kids or any kids is disgusting. Seriously show some respect, one day they are going to grow up and do you really want to be the one that messed them up? That person they look back on and are still upset about, the one who didn’t spend enough time with them, or who yelled at them at the dinner table for NO REASON. Think back to your childhood, I’m sure there’s at least one adult you don’t want to be remembered as. People are annoying these days that just keep popping them out without thinking about any of this. Kids aren’t an accessory item; they aren’t something you just have to have like it’s a job, like society loves to shove down our throats (Yes I realize accidents happen) but put some real thought into it….please.

Recommended Song and Movie of the Week!

This week the recommended song goes out to an up and coming band called Shallow Side. This is their single from a few years ago "Stand Up". I got the pleasure of first seeing these guys live with my girlfriend a few years ago, opening for a Trapt show. We both fell in love with their music, i guarantee you will see more of these guys as time goes on. Hopefully you like them as much I do! The Recommended movie of the week is an awesome animated film called "Rise Of The Guardians". You May have heard of it, but not seen it. Don't trust the negative reviews, this movie is beautifully done and has a great voice acting cast in Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, and Alec Baldwin. It mostly centers around Jack Frost who is trying to figure out what he is and his sense of purpose, meanwhile the evil Boogeyman is slowly making children not believe in the legendary Guardians. It culminates between a big fight between them and him. There's something about this movie that just makes you feel like a kid again, that feeling you use to get on Christmas morning, or Easter when you woke up and believed the Easter Bunny had actually come. If you haven't seen it, you should really check it out.

16 Cover Songs That Really Rock!

Ever listen to a song, and think “Wow this is pretty good” but then realize it’s from Taylor Swift, and to not seem like a wuss you immediately change the station. Well I have a solution for you; here are 16 songs that have been redone by badass rock bands, lyrically still great, but musically redone to rock your face off. Enjoy! :)

16- I Don’t Care Anymore- HellYeah -This one’s actually pretty new, and honestly just a cover of an old slow rock song by Phil Collins. But it still made the list because it’s a pretty rockin jam.

15- Faith- Limp Bizkit- Redoing George Michael’s song, “Faith”, this song really flip flops between a straight remake and a screaming rocking song. But they make it work.

14- Toxic- Local H -No “man” can listen to Brittany Spears and seem masculine, well Local H has made your Brittany song cool again.
13- Tainted Love- Marilyn Manson- This is one of those songs where after you hear it, it is suddenly much better than the original. Manson is a master of remakes.

12- Smooth Criminal- Alien Ant Farm -Although Michael Jackson’s original version is still awesome, this song really rocks, honestly you probably already knew this one. But it’s too good to not be here!

11- Hello- leo moracchioli- This one is also pretty new as well, covering Adele’s huge hit from this past year. This one has some mixed reactions, but I enjoy it more than hers!

10- Poker Face- Of Mice and Men- You be the judge of this one, and listen for yourself.

9- Disturbia- The Cab- I won’t lie, I actually like Rihanna’s version too. But this is a perfect song for a hard rock band to cover.

8- Further seems forever- bye bye bye- We all know we have a guilty pleasure for an NSYNC song every now and again, but these guys turn this into a punk classic.

7- Umbrella- The Veer union- I’ve liked these guys since their beginning, and this song proves why.
6- Sweet dreams- Marilyn Manson- Well like I said Manson is a king of covers, so he made the list twice!

5- Gangsters Paradise- Falling In Reverse- Yet again another track, where I love it so much more than the original. Like A Storm also has a version of this you should check out.

4-Blank space- I prevail- Remember that Taylor Swift reference in the beginning? Well here is why!
3- Our last night- stressed out- Even though the original is pretty good by Twenty One Pilots, this version is so much better.

2- Lollipop- Framing Hanley- As a big fan of Framing Hanley, this had to be near the top. Besides they turned one of the lamest rap songs into a super awesome rock song.

1-Since U Been Gone- A Day To Remember- I had to make this number one, because honestly it’s the oldest one I can remember first hearing. I loved it, it made me seek out the rest of the list of cover tracks over the years, pretty much!

Top 14 Most Anticipated Shows for Fall 2016!

Well the best time of the year is upon us in autumn. Not only does the weather get beautiful, we get to have some Halloween fun, and start to pig out on sweets. But we also get a great new fall lineup of new TV shows spread across the networks. I’ve counted down the top 14 TV shows in my opinion set to air in the next two months! Check it out.

14- Last Man Standing Season Six- Last we left off on Last Man Standing on season five, Mandy and Kyle had decided to get married and move in with Mike and Vanessa. There wasn’t too much of a cliffhanger, but this show always provides some laughs. Also how can you not love Tim Allen? Plus the Home Improvement references are always fun, and with Kyle moving in, does that mean we get to see more of one of the funniest guys on the show!?
Release date-Friday September 23rd on ABC

13-Taken Season One- Coming as a prequel to the Taken franchise starring Liam Neeson, this is supposed to show how Bryan Mills, who will now be played by Clive Standen, became the badass we know him as. This sounds interesting to me, as a fan of the first “Taken” movie, but it could also be lame, we will find out!
Release date-Fall 2016 on NBC

12- Man With A Plan Season One- I just recently found out about this show, and I’ve always been a sitcom guy, so I got excited. But not just that, it’s JOEY! The “Man with a Plan” show will in fact star Matt Leblanc as a man named Adam who’s a contractor. He decides to spend more time with his kids, after his wife goes back to work, but all I see is Joey Tribbiani, a decade later in life. Check out the trailer and see for yourself.
Release Date- Monday Oct. 24th on CBS

11- Agents Of Shield Season Four - I’m actually surprised in myself that this made my list, but season 3 was pretty good. “Agents of Shield” was always something I watched out of obligation because it connects to the rest of the MCU. But I binged watched season 3 on Netflix recently and it kept my interest. Now wondering how this is going to play out with Daisy being some kind of vigilante, and her powers becoming pretty cool. I am looking forward to this one for once.
Release date- Tuesday September 20th on ABC

10-Arrow Season Five- “Arrow” has been on a slippery slope with me since season 3. Last season was slightly better than the third, but still not season one or two good. I can only hope the fifth season picks up the pace again. With the team dismantled except Oliver and Felicity, one has to wonder what threat is going to cause them to reunite, also I wonder if the Flash changing the timeline is going to affect them at all as well. Hopefully Oliver being the new mayor doesn’t make the show to boring, or political.
Release date- Wednesday October 5th on CW

9-DC’s Legends Of tomorrow Season Two- Although it has some mixed reviews, I have really enjoyed season one of “Legends of Tomorrow”. At first it was a jumble of characters, but they really have done a good job of developing them. Obviously we already knew the majority of them through “The Flash” and “Arrow” shows but we really got to know them here, and see them shine. I especially loved seeing Wentworth Miller as Captain Cold and Dominic Purcell as Heatwave, teaming back up since “Prison Break”. Not quite the good guys but not the villains either. At the end of season one the team is all over the place, but a handful of them reunite and then someone from the Justice Society of America shows up and tells them if they get on their ship, they’re all dead. This will be an awesome start of the second season. But I hope Captain Cold returns too!
Release date- Thursday October 13th on CW

8-Supernatural Season Twelve- Well going into the 12th season of “Supernatural” can be no easy task for the makers of this show, but I’m still with them. As much as I love Sam and Dean Winchester, and Castiel, I sometimes wonder if it’d be better to put this bad boy of a show to rest. Despite that, I’m still looking forward to see what else they can possibly offer, after they basically conquered the biggest monster of them all in the Darkness. I wasn’t a fan of how that story arc ended with her and god riding off in the sunset together, literally, but I guess it was to show even these guys couldn’t stop her power. But with Dean now reunited with his mom since 1983, and Sam being shot by a woman who claims to be a part of the London branch of the Man of Letters, we shall see where this goes. I’m just personally hoping to see Lucifer again!
Release date- Thursday October 13th on CW

7-American Horror Story Season Six- Although I haven’t seen season five yet, this show has delivered basically every season so far. My favorite was season was season four, the freak show. But this year the creators aren’t releasing any information on the new season. All we have to go off is a few fifteen second teaser clips. I personally can’t connect the pieces and see what they’re going for. But I have faith they’ll make it awesome and I’m excited for it.
Release date- Wednesday September 14th on FX

6-Gotham Season Three- Coming off from an awesome season two, Gotham is really starting to heat up. We left off with so much craziness; it’s hard to recap it in a few sentences. Basically Gordon has his work cut out for him, all of these creepy monsters created by Hugo Strange being released into the streets, and one of them looks like Bruce Wayne? Fish Mooney is back and I can’t wait to see her go after the Penguin. Plus you have The Riddler, Mr. Freeze, and Firefly just to name a few more villains who haven’t gone away yet. I do wish people would stop asking for Batman though; this show is the rise of Gordon to commissioner, and the story of Batman’s villains before they met him. We don’t need him, at least not until the end. Oh and if you didn’t know Poison Ivy is full grown in this new season, so that’ll be interesting too!
Release date- Monday September 19th on Fox

5-Kevin Can Wait Season One- As a huge fan of the “King of Queens” show, I am super excited to see Kevin James is back for his new show “Kevin Can Wait”. This shows looks hilarious, as a retired cop, Kevin is about to have some free time on his hands. But it looks like his daughter is home from college with a new boyfriend that he doesn’t approve of, and they are about to move in. Kevin looks like he is basically playing Kevin, just himself like he was as Doug Heffernan, and he is funny as always. Just the trailer has me laughing!
Release date- Monday September 19th on CBS

4-The Exorcist Season One- Based on the classic terrifying movie “The Exorcist”, this show looks fantastically creepy. We don’t have too many horror based TV shows these days, other than “American Horror Story”, this could be the next big scary thing to hit TV on a weekly basis. I just hope the show lives up to the trailer and hype.
Release date- Friday September 23rd on Fox

3-Marvel’s Luke Cage Season One- Finally in September we get the next Marvel TV show, and third member of the Defenders, in Luke Cage. We have previously been introduced to him in “Jessica Jones”, and I really am digging Mike Colter as Luke. He looks the part, and plays him well. My biggest concern is that in “Jessica Jones” the fighting scenes were really sub-par compared to the likes of Daredevils. It was mostly just Jessica and him throwing people around. But we shall see, regardless of the fighting, let’s hope there is a great story and plot to the start of the man with unbreakable skin.
Release date- Friday September 30th on Netflix

2-The Flash Season Three- The Flash got really strange last season, but also really awesome. It’s become my favorite DC show out of them all. Barry is a really likeable character, and last we saw him he changed everything we knew, by saving his mother from dying way back when he was child. This is based on the Flashpoint storyline from the comics; this was a great cliffhanger, because now we have to wonder about the fate of all of these awesome characters! I also really hope to see Zoom return at some point as well.
Release date- Tuesday October 4th on CW

1-The Walking Dead Season Seven- There’s no denying the excitement I have for the return of the Walking Dead. The last two seasons I’ll admit I was a little disappointed with the way they have been dragging this out. Something that was awesome about the Walking Dead at first was that every episode packed a punch, and was exciting. But now it kind of feels like they are money hungry. With that said I still have it as my most anticipated show because the cliffhanger of season six is one of the best cliffhangers I have ever seen, anticipating who will die all summer has been rough. I don’t understand the backlash though; it’s a great idea to get us excited, something to look forward to. Who’s going to die at the hands of Negan!? Please don’t let it be Glenn!
Release date- Sunday October 23rd on AMC

Movie of the Week -"The Final"

For the Movie of the Week I am going with a small little
horror film known as "The Final". This movie is pretty awesome, not only
does it send a powerful message for anti-bullying, but its also nice
and creepy the way I like it. It definitely makes you think, and
honestly it's hard not to cheer for the "bad guys" doing the killing in
this one. Check it out.

From Ashes to New - Lost and Alone

Each Week I'd like to do a recommended song of the week, and also a recommended movie of the week. I will try to keep the song newer(not always) but the movie will be from anytime. Since there may be some good older films you don't know about. Just because I post a song I'm liking doesn't mean I know all of their music, it might be just that one song.

For my first song, I have to go with "Lost and
Alone" by From Ashes to New. These guys have been on fire since hitting
the scene. This is one of those songs where I could listen to it over
and over again. Lead singer Chris Musser, has an amazing voice. I have
been getting into them more and more lately. Plus most of us can say
from time to time, we do feel lost and alone.

Suicide Squad Review (Spoilers)

What can I say about Suicide Squad? Well I can say I actually liked it, despite its mixed reviews. I should first say that Batman V Superman didn’t appeal to me all that much. There were parts I really liked, like Ben Affleck’s Batman, but overall I gave it a 6 out of 10 rating. Just putting it out there as this is DC’s third DCEU movie. I believe Suicide Squad is a great idea, a movie about villains. To me a villain is a fascinating character in any movie. I like to see what drives them, and sometimes I completely understand where they’re coming from. Let’s face it in real life; we aren’t all just heroes or villains. We all have a good and bad side, and this is one thing I enjoyed seeing in Suicide Squad. Learning these villain’s stories and seeing how they aren’t just straight up evil beings who want to kill or take over the world for no reason. I thought Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot stood out the most, probably for obvious reasons because they had the most screen time. But they did fantastic jobs as their characters. Margot’s accent switching up was a little weird, but she’s also a bit of a psycho so it sort of worked too. I liked they got her backstory in there and did it right. The flashbacks to her Joker were also pretty cool. I’ve seen some saying they aren’t supposed to really be in love in real life, and he is supposed to be abusive towards her. Well I personally saw that he was, I mean he fried her brain to begin with, had her jump into a thing of acid, he left her to drown or be captured by batman. I’m sure there are other moments too. I looked at him coming for her, as him going back for his property, as if she belonged to him. As for Deadshot I enjoyed his story being about his daughter, it made sense in the end he went to fight for the world, to save his daughter. I liked the Enchantress as the main villain, I thought she did well at being creepy, and she had a backstory to go off from. I’ll admit I was one of the people worried about Jared Leto taking on the Joker character, but he did alright with the actual acting like the Joker part, I didn’t care for his cheesy tattoos, I mean I love tattoos but not his with the “hahaha’ and the “damaged”. Also it was weird how he was a gangster boss like guy. Killer Croc I thought was badass; I just wish I could have seen more of him.
Ok as for what I didn’t like, the fact right from the get go there are too many characters introduced, honestly to many characters in the whole film. Also the way they introduced them in the beginning was a bit weird, explaining their entire stories one after the other. If you know these characters, maybe it wasn’t a big deal for you, but a lot of people don’t. I understand that is what the Suicide Squad is, a large group of villains, but they could have handled this better. I also think a few of these characters were completely pointless and added no real substance to the film. The three that stand out here are Slipknot, Captain Boomerang, and Katana. Slipknot just dies right away with no real introduction to begin with. Maybe he was supposed to stand for; if you don’t listen they are serious about killing you. Katana also was pointless, not really a villain, but fighting for the good guys. She just felt thrown in there last minute when they were ready to start the mission, and really if she wasn’t in the movie at all, it wouldn’t have made a difference. I feel the same about captain Boomerang; I mean I guess he had a little more influence than the other two; he had a backstory at least. But I think some of this was due to the cuts they made. They never explained why he had some pink unicorn, stuff like that. Which leads me to my next point that it seems DC will be making a habit out of cutting content out of their theatrical release and then releasing extended versions on DVD instead. Supposedly the Batman V Superman extended cut makes up for some its error. I do believe an extra 30 minutes’ worth could make a world of difference, which is why I have purchased it, but have not yet viewed it. I would have liked to see plenty more of the Joker, but again a lot his scenes were cut, I have been hearing up to 10 scenes worth, which also could make a world of difference. Hopefully they don’t keep up with this trend. I believe a movie like this should have been rated R honestly. I think it could have been outstanding if it was. The ending was also a bit over the top; I mean an end of the world scenario I was not expecting. I guess on the flip side it made sense because why else are these guys risking their lives. The majority of them are bad guys after all with few loved ones (I’m assuming). But where was Batman, Flash, and Wonder Woman, it’d seem to me with a situation this big, they would be there. But maybe we will find out later. I just wish other than Deadshot they gave them more of a reason to fight the enchantress at the end, yes at first they had bombs in their necks.  But after that, it was weird that every one of them decided to fight.
One thing I got to say about DCEU films is I think they are heavily comic based. What I mean is I realize Marvel films are far from reality but they seem like they try to make things as realistic as they can to a certain extent. I just feel DC is like well this is what happened in the comics so here ya go, and some of it they don’t explain. I realize they are going to explain over a period of movies, but still. Not that I don’t like their films so far, I just wish they would take their time introducing their characters. There is no rush, they have all the time in the world and after 4 movies they will be doing a Justice League film, which I find a little crazy. But I’ll still go see it. I really want to like DC’s films; they just make it hard at times. But overall, I know it might be an unpopular opinion but I give Suicide Squad an 8 out of 10, despite some of its big flaws. To me there is just something appealing about it, maybe it’s because we are coming straight out of Batman V Superman, maybe I’m too generous with this one. But I consider this movie a guilty pleasure movie, just something I like despite the flaws even I see.

Fandom, does your opinion really matter????

So to start off my very first blog, I may piss some people off early, and well that’s OK, because like I’ve said before you don’t have to agree with me. But something that has really been grinding my gears lately, and getting under my skin so much that it’s caused me to write this segment, is this thing called Fandom. Now I know Fandom is just a word to describe fans of a specific team, or brand, or really anything, and means no harm, I get it. But what I don’t get is when did we become this culture of self-righteous, egotistical, narcissistic fans that you see everywhere now a days(Specifically on the internet). Alright let me explain before people start jumping down my throat and break this down.
What I am specifically talking about is these guys or fans if you will who act like they are the BIGGEST and BEST fan ever, because they are OBSESSED with something so much, that no matter what you say, they know all about it and you know nothing and should stop being a fan immediately! You know because you don’t know how to “fan” right obviously. Let me give you some examples I have seen that actually directly relate to me, even though these situations haven’t happened to me personally. Ok so I like WWE wrestling, it’s no secret, and I love it in fact. I would say I am a HUGE fan of WWE pro wrestling, if you’re not that’s cool, just bear with me because there’s a point to be made here. I was surfing Facebook the other day and this post from WWE is about these 2 new guys down in their NXT show (a developmental program for new talent to the WWE) and a comment on the post is just a dude saying something about how one of these new guys looks like yada yada, I don’t remember exactly what he said, but he was making an innocent comment. Nothing to be upset about, but oh boy were a lot people! You know why? Because apparently one of those guys is a huge deal in the pro wrestling industry overall (not in WWE yet), and this guy isn’t a REAL FAN!? He was told to stop watching, and that he sucks, and that he’s obviously not a “real” wrestling fan, and all of this just crazy...hmm what did I say before... oh yeah SELF RIGHTEUOUS, EGOTISTICAL, NARCISSISTIC  “fans” coming down on him. Which brings me to my point, what is up with the lack of disrespect amongst fellow fans these days? Seriously why is it we can’t be just fans of something nowadays without everyone ruining it for us, and trying to make us feel like shit because we aren’t so into something like they are? Now this specific example resonates with me personally, because I do in fact consider myself a big fan of WWE. I have been watching for nearly 15 years. Now I don’t say I’m a huge pro wrestling fan, why? Because of shit like this, guys jump down your throat and actually ask you to stop watching, when you are both supporting the same thing!? How does that make any sense?
It’s not just wrestling, look at music for example too, we all like music right? I’m sure this one applies to a lot of people, but specifically ,for me I’m going with rock music, because that’s my jam. I love hard rock, and metal. Oh shit wait here comes the raining down of “Well you don’t listen to real metal!” that’s exactly what I mean again. People acting like these weird hipsters of their own self interests. Why does it offend you so much if I say I like metal and I say I like Five finger death punch, Slipknot, or Avatar. It just immediately starts a fire in you, “NO THAT’S NOT REAL METAL!” It almost sounds laughable when I think about people getting genuinely upset over something so trivial. But again people say things like that and these “Kings of their own little fandom world” get out of control.
Let’s go with Marvel and DC films. They are huge right now, it’s no secret. I also am a really big fan of Marvel movies, shows, and DC content. You go online and try to talk about your thoughts on a movie, and what do you get slammed with? Shit from “real” fans because they read the comics! Every issue there’s ever been. Some of these guys are pros right, they must have a job of reading comics since they want to shove that in your face constantly. Now if you’re a comic fan, that’s great, we wouldn’t have these films without them. No disrespect towards you. However what’s the big deal if more and more people love the movies but not the comics. Why are we not allowed to have opinions because you somehow have more rights to something than us, because you’ve delved deeper into it than others. Don’t get me wrong, I see no issues being a big fan of something, hell even being obsessed. That’s your right, go ahead. But why put others down who also are enjoying it alongside you? Sure if somebody’s challenging you about the history of for example A Marvel character, and you’ve read every comic issue, and they’ve only seen the movies, then yes go right ahead and take them to school on it. They started a war they can’t win. But why can’t I simply go on a post and be like you know “I didn’t care for Batman V superman because of the confusing storyline” and then get bombarded with “Well if you’re a real fan! If you’d read the comics”. Like why? You do you and I’ll do me.
I get it, it’s the internet and some might say after this article, “don’t go on the internet if you don’t wanna be offended!” and I just don’t understand that mentality. Like when did the internet become the jungle, this “survival of the fittest” mentality? Where we have to expect to be ridiculed and ostracized for our opinions and beliefs. We literally have created this other world where people go on and become just these animals. There’s no respect amongst fellow fans most the time, or really anyone for that matter. The fan part really gets me going because I just don’t get it, where does it make you feel satisfied inside that you have” one upped” someone because of what you like.  And the crazy part is for ex. Marvel again, I’ve never read a comic, but damn I pay to see every film of theirs in theaters and I buy every film on DVD. I buy merchandise all the time. Like we are on the same side here, why be like that. WHY!??
My Solution would be you should really stop singling fans out of whatever the subject is, no matter what because hey you have a common interest right? Not just that but you both support that particular thing, and without the other that thing might not strive. And you may no longer see it. I Love the band Hollywood Undead and I have liked them before they blew up, yes I understand when I was in 8th grade I too also got mad when something went mainstream that I loved first. But now that they are bigger, I couldn’t be happier to be see them do great. I’m going to keep getting records because people keep loving what I love, and isn’t that the most important thing. So join up with your fellow fans! Show some comradery; maybe give them more insight if you can offer more on the subject than they can, and most of all just stop with the massively inflated egos pertaining to your fandom.
